THE NEW GM...GOVERNMENT MOTORS

General Motors is now Government Motors. With the unconstitutional power grab by Obama, the last remnants of American free enterprise has experienced a sudden death.

Not satisfied with the attempt to take over the health care and banking industries, Obama's insatiable power gluttony advances with the takeover of two-thirds of the American automobile industry.

"Wait, a minute," you're saying. "Shouldn't Obama be given a chance to run the car companies? After all, they haven't done too good of a job themselves." Bringing in the government to run the car companies is like saying, "Dad crashed the car so lets let the dog drive."

As poorly as the car companies have been managed, can you imagine how bad it will be with the exact same people running the show as the ones running such outstanding institutions as the IRS, Postal Service, HUD, Fannie & Freddie, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the list goes on. In fact, the government has yet to run a successful enterprise, and they never will. Why is that?

For one thing, governments seek monopolies. They don't like competition. It fact, they don't tolerate it. Now, they can't profit, even when given a monopoly, but they still prefer them to the competitive world. Another is that middle managers in government are compensated based on the number of employees that report to them and their pay grades. These managers, personally, have absolutely no incentive whatsoever to reduce costs by using their staffs more efficiently. There are many more reasons why government doesn't work, but I'd have to write a book, and this is only an article. The government is going to tell a private business how to stream-line business? Puleaze!

Not only is the hostile takeover of American car companies an unconstitutional abuse of government power, but it's an unwise usage of taxpayer funds. Why did the government give them billions of dollars? To rescue them? They're filing for bankruptcy anyway! Couldn't they have filed for bankruptcy without receiving the $19 or so billion that they've flushed? Who are we bailing out if they're failing in spite of the bailouts?

On March 30th, the President said, "Let me be clear. The United States Government has no interest in running GM. We have no intention of running GM." If that's the case, and it's obviously, definitely not, then why take majority ownership? Why not do, what they should have done in the first place, let bankruptcy run its course? Why insist on being able to appoint government christened directors to the car companies' respective board of directors?

Another significant detestation is the use of taxpayers funds to overweight ownership to the auto unions, at the expense of the legal rights of bondholders, stockholders, and creditors. What a nice payoff to the loyal Democrat Party controlled labor unions that is.

The apparatchiks and schemers have pulled off a coup that paves the way for massive big government to get its tentacles into an industry that will allow the feds to ram their agenda down all of our throats.
