THE OBAMA MESS

The Obama Mess, a whirlwind of activity, has created a plethora of miscues, snafus, and ill-conceived rescues, despite all of the positive press.

Below is a list of some of these boneheaded moves, but is certainly not a comprehensive list. Take short walk with me down memory lane:

STIMULUS (PORKULUS) WEBSITE, RECOVERY.GOV, FLOPS:

"We're actually going to set up something called Recovery.gov. This is going to be a special website that gives you a report on where the money is going in your community, how it is being spent, how many jobs are being created, so that all of you can be the eyes and ears: and if you see that a project is not working the way it's supposed to, you'll be able to get on that website and say, 'You, know, I, I, I, thought this was supposed to be going to school construction, but, uhhhh, I haven't noticed any changes being made'" -- Barack Obama, telling Americans how to track the $787 billion in federal porkulus spending, 2/9/09

"That website is evolving . . . I would probably be the first to admit today that the website doesn't give you that kind of information (how much and where the money is being spent)." -- Earl Devaney, Obama's chairman of the Accountability and Transparency Board," explaining that the Porkulus spending transparency website (recovery.gov) promised by Obama (see 2/9/09), won't be fully functional until at least October of 2009 if not later, 5/6/09

"Sir, we haven't really received any information about that on the website." -- Devaney, when asked by Rep. Paul Brown (R-GA), "How do you plan to verify the actual number of (stimulus) jobs created?" 5/6/09

Keep in mind that the cost to set up the porkulus spending website, recovery.gov, is a cool $84 million!

OBAMA LIES ABOUT CATEPILLAR LAYOFFS:

"Today, the Chairman and CEO of Caterpillar said that if the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan (Porkulus) passes, his company would be able to rehire some of those employees (that were laid off)." -- Obama, in Springfield, VA, 2/11/09

"I think realistically, no. The truth is we're going to have more layoffs before we start hiring again." -- Jim Owens, Chairman and CEO of Caterpillar, press conference, 2/12/09

OBAMA EXPLODES THE DEFICIT:

"The government will have to borrow nearly 50 cents for every dollar it spends this year, exploding the record federal deficit past $1.8 trillion under new White House estimates." -- Associated Press 5/11/09

"I don't know what spiraling debt you're referring to." -- Peter Orszag, White House Budget Director, when asked by a reporter about increasing federal debt, quoted in The Wall Street Journal.

"The long-term deficit and debt that we have accumulated is unsustainable. We can't keep on just borrowing from China or borrowing from other countries. We have to pay interest on that debt and that means that we're mortgaging our children's future with more and more debt." -- Barack Obama, at New Mexico Town Hall Meeting, Reuters

"Janet Napolitano, the Department of Homeland Security, estimates that they can save up to $52 million over five years just by purchasing office supplies in bulk." -- Obama, bragging about $100 million in budget "cuts," .000025 percent of his budget, after spending $4 trillion, 4/20/09

Question for the President: Who's writing the checks? You are! Can you say contradiction? delusional?

OBAMA EXHIBITS FASCIST METHODS IN DEALINGS WITH CAR COMPANIES:

Not only did he fire the head of GM, but Obama's auto task force ordered Chrysler to halve its advertising budget, 5/11/09

Then, Obama's "Car Czar" Steve Rattner orders 789 Chrysler dealerships closed, including profitable ones, sending many decades-old family-owned businesses into bankruptcy, 5/15/09

At a time when they can least afford to retool, Obama imposed higher fuel efficiency standards. Although only one car now on the market (the 2010 Toyota Prius) meets this standard, by 2016 fleet mileage for cars must average 42 miles per gallon. In exquisite economic timing, Obama's regulations are expected to add $1,300 to the cost of building each car, 5/19/09

OBAMA MISLEADS ABOUT AMERICAN HEALTH ASSOCIATION (AHA) COOPERATION:

"These groups (including the AHA) are voluntarily coming together to make an unprecedented committment. Over the next 10 years, from 2010 to 2019, they are pledging to cut the rate of growth of national health care spending by 1.5 percentage points each year -- an amount that's equal to over $2 trillion." -- Obama, "pulling a Catapillar" on health bigwigs by announcing they support his socialist plan, 5/11/09

"The AHA (American Health Association) did not commit to support the 'Obama health plan' or budget. No such reform plan exists at this time." -- Richard Pollack, AHA executive vice president, in The New York Times, 5/14/09

"There has been a tremendous amount of confusion and, frankly, a lot of political spin." -- Richard Umbdenstock, AHA president, in Politico.com, 5/14/09

I can think of other blunders from the Obama administration, like promising "no lobbyists in my administration" and "no more earmarks" and others, but hey, who's counting. That's hope and change for you!
