Jeffrey Anderson from the New York Post shed light on this smoke and mirrors trickery. Anderson describes the shady and misleading lower estimate by using:
"the same accounting trick as past versions: 99 percent of the costs don't kick in until the fifth year of that "10-year" period. The true 10-year costs are well over twice what Reid's advertising: $1.8 trillion."
As you can see from the chart Anderson made using Congressional Budget Office (CBO), projections, the Democrats count ten years of revenues from the scheme, but they don't count the costs until 2014. Remember, under their plan, the American people will begin to be taxed for this health care plan immediately. Of course in subsequent years, the revenues (tax increases) count for ten, and their costs count for ten, but they conveniently leave this out to get their foot in the door.
This is a sleazy strategy by the political crooks to minimize the cost and overstate the effect of the tax increases and mysterious cost cutting of "waste, fraud and abuse."
Only in Washington, D.C. can ten years be defined as six years and six years be defined as ten. (download the chart in PDF format here).
